This mesmerizing vintage rug, created by a renowned Swedish designer Beatrice Pinlstrand, is outstanding in many ways. Its style – Rya – is actually the oldest type of the northern antique oriental rugs that was developed in order to protect the people, especially the mariners living off the sea, from the harsh climatic conditions. Ryas were modeled on natural animal fur, thus they are distinguished by an exceptionally long and shaggy pile.

This rya was masterly hand-executed of the finest wool in accordance with old and refined weaving techniques reaching back to the middle ages, which ensures its quality and longevity. However, it is the phenomenal design by Beatrice Pinlstrand that makes the Scandinavian rug so special. Its field resembles an abstract painting with a hint of impressionism.
