An early 20th century arts and crafts carpet designed by Gavin Morton (1867-1954), having a red field with a bold Turkish-inspired polychrome geometric trellis design of hooked palmettes, angular vinery and abstract leaves within a blue border of stylized palmettes and vinery. The present vintage carpet is demonstrative of the designer’s predilection for updating traditional Persian antique rug design by enhancing the color and enlarging and stylizing the design motifs.
