Vintage Swedish Rya Rug, Origin: Sweden, Circa 1950. A rya is a traditional Scandinavian wool rug with a long pile of about 1 – 3 inches. The first of Ryas were produced in the early fifteenth century as very simple, long-piled, heavy covers used by mariners rather than furs. Subsequently the antique rugs have evolved to be lighter and more colorful.
This rya is beyond doubt full of unpredictable colors. Black and lilac broken lines divide the surface of the vintage carpet on colorful fields: light gray, beige and heather pink. The pattern of this Swedish rya is full of character and wild. The lilac border creates original, unusual finish of the rug. Thanks to it the Swedish shag rug surface seems a bit fuzzy, ensuring the uniqueness of scheme including ‘broken’ horizontal lines. The area rug is a variation combining traditional Scandinavian design with exceptional cool colors. This is a proposal for the original and demanding owner.
