Donanne Kasikci: Both rooms are lovely however I am drawn to the one with color. It looks more inviting and warm. I’m sure there would be wonderful parties with interesting people. The other room has gorgeous pieces but lacks warmth and less relaxing.

Noelle Newell: The right is more practical as it will not show dirt as much. I need the area rug. I like the left yet I have a hard time w. the blank canvas. I would need to add a area rug in the left room and even if it was a line drawing or a white on white maybe something with texture painting above fireplace. The image on the right I would feel comfortable and I know my husband would feel more confident with a glass of red wine here. It might not be my favorite yellow yet it works well here as it provides a wonderful contrast to the other wise quiet room. Like the coffee table, rug, velvet and mouldings.

Michael Hennessy: If effective means more bold or eye catching it would be the one on the right. THe one on the left would be labeled subtle.
Doris Leslie Blau: Effective is whatever you want it to mean.. up for interpretation.

Joy Miles Gimbel: I love the art lighting over the yellow, which would help the white one pop as well. So I think both look fab in each different decor. But if had to choose one, I’d choose the white with lighting above as works well in making both decors, which are tres chic! Xo Joy

Shelley Morris: In all seriousness, a rug DOES hold a seating grouping together, just depends on the intent of the design. I almost always opt for the rug. Love hand made rugs as much as art, but they serve a more practical purpose as well.
