An early 20th century Ghiordes carpet from Turkey having a rich brick red field with an allover floral trellis in beige with unusual pendants anchoring each end and framed by similar beige spandrels within a beige border of highly stylized floral motifs.
Since the beginning of their production in the 18th century, antique rugs from the Anatolian town, Ghiordes Turkish rugs have mostly been known for their rectilinear, colorful, multi-bordered antique prayer patterns. Ghiordes large area rugs often have open fields with mihrabs or hanging lamps and stylized architectural motifs that are found on sixteenth and seventeenth century Ottoman court rugs.
