High-Quality Vintage Moroccan Rug in Beige, Blue, Purple BB7610 5'8" × 9'8" $9,000
$9,000
This vintage area rug originates from Morocco and dates back to 1950. It is made out of wool, to which Moroccan rugs owe their timelessness and durability. The rug’s field is mainly beige, with blue and purple reserved for the motifs within its pattern. The pattern itself is a grid of rhombi, each containing a motif. The set of motifs used here is quite diverse, with a distinct one being used for nearly every column of rhombi. Some imperfections may be seen in this rug, as in the partial border on the bottom, which seems to have been abandoned, and thus, the rhombal pattern begins to look increasingly haphazard on the left side of the carpet. This, however, is a true mark of authenticity and of the handcrafted nature of this unique piece of Moroccan art.
From versatile flatweaves to shaggy hand-knotted area rugs or runners, Moroccan rugs are both decorative and functional. They are valued for their technical qualities, expert use of fibers, great tensile strength, and abrasion resistance. Without a doubt, the original tribal Moroccan rugs from the Doris Leslie Blau collection bring character and a touch of worldliness to an interior.
