Vintage Tribal Moroccan Wool Rug in Red, Orange, Beige, and Black BB7354 5'1" × 7'0" $4,000

$4,000

This vintage Moroccan rug was carefully hand-woven of high-quality wool in accordance with centuries-old weaving techniques which ensured its longevity and durability. Its field is adorned with a seemingly primitive design which, however, has a deeper meaning. Diamonds symbolize protection against the Evil Eye, Tree of Life motifs are a promise of eternal life. The border embracing the main field carries symbols which are believed to bring fertility – Elibelinde (Hands on Hips) and Bereket (Fertility). Everything is rendered in a vivacious color palette featuring shades of red, orange, beige and touches of dark brown. Fringe puts the finishing touch on the composition.

Although the pattern of the rug seems to be carelessly executed – it is a bit uneven and primitive – it is done so absolutely on purpose. Nomadic tribes believe that nothing but God can be perfect, thus they deliberately make designs with little imperfections. Nonetheless, this is what gives Moroccan tribal rugs their irrepressible charm.
