This vintage rug, made circa 1950, comes from the golden period for Chinese rug industry marked by the thriving business activity of Walter Nichols. The first half of the 20th century was a turning point for Chinese weavings. It was then Chinese rugs have transformed from utterly traditional to more contemporary by absorbing Western influences, Art Deco among others.

The vintage Chinese rug before your eyes is a paragon of the aesthetics of its time. It carries a detailed figurative design which represents an Oriental garden. The main field is embraced by a series of borders, some of which are adorned with geometric and floral motifs.
