Vintage Swedish Rug by Berit Koening BB5843 6'0" × 7'10" $5,000
$5,000
The simplicity and purity of design in vintage Scandinavian rugs gives them an immediate relevance and contemporary desirability amongst not only collectors, but also designers. Although the designs of antique and vintage Scandinavian rugs were originally inspired by imported textiles, they gradually developed into an innately northern expression. Simple geometric patterns and vignettes from everyday life such as bouquets of flowers, a child’s sampler or a pet dog were incorporated into flat woven tapestries or Swedish pile vintage area rugs and carpets, adding charm and immediacy to this folk art.
This stunning vintage Swedish rug was woven in the mid 20th century, circa 1930. Every element of its design was carefully thought over in order to create a perfect carpet. Designed by Berit Koening, rug’s pattern includes vertical rows of alternating geometrical shapes, framed by a thin border. The composition, despite multiple elements involved, is very simple, almost minimalistic. Color palette of this piece includes mostly neutral shades of beige and brown with just a hint of gray in some places, which work together in a perfect harmony.
The size of this stunning vintage Scandinavian rug, 6’0″ × 7’10” (183 × 239 cm), makes it a perfect addition to any type of interior, from bedroom to dining room. Here at Doris Leslie Blau we take a great pride in what we do and nothing makes us happier than the knowledge that our hard work is appreciated by both our clients and countless interior design magazines, such as Architectural Digest or Vogue.
