Antique Persian Kirman Beige, Inky Blue, Green and Brown Wool Rug BB6819 9'10" × 11'10" $70,000
$70,000
This turn of the century antique Persian Kirman rug features an all-over design of elaborate floral abstractions and arabesques in shades of inky blue, green and brown against a field of beige. Oriental rug staples, such as the boteh, a paisley shape usually representing a leaf or a pinecone, pop up amid the floral patterns. Multiple borders containing stylized flower motifs contribute to the ornate, exotic look of the antique carpet.
Antique Persian rugs are sought-after collectors’ items for a number of reasons, including their broad range of designs, an elaborate palette, use of natural dyes and fibers, great tensile strength and expert color combinations. The antique carpets are typically cotton-foundation with high knot densities, and frequently have intricate all-over floral patterns – as seen in this particular carpet. Golam Hussein, Sherefat Khan and Arjomand are among the most well-known 20th century Kirman designers.
