Folk Art Rugs

Folk art may also resemble spiritual beliefs of the simple people, shown in the pattern and motifs used. Quite frequently they are symbols of prosperity, good luck or simply protection against the evil eye.

What started as simple folk art centuries ago, now may be the most valuable work of art. Certain features and unique materials connected with the given region and its people also allow to recognize the source of an object.

Folk art is also present in the carpet industry. One may say that what now is an expensive artistic and antique Persian carpet, was once created by a simple weaver, expressing his people’s culture, fears, and hopes.

Among the most popular folk patterns are zigzags, stripes, squares, and motifs used include stars, göl, dragons, Herati, boteh, mihrabs, trees of life, and hundreds of other symbols with meaning. Colors are also carefully chosen as they may convey meaning as well. For example, red is for wealth, beauty and courage, blue is for truth and afterlife, etc.

Sometimes a rug made by a folk artist is raw, not very symmetrical, and with imperfections, but the plain beauty of it, natural colors, and straightforward beliefs conveyed in the motifs and symbols used, are priceless.

Folk art rugs will always be a perfect addition to a room of your choice, especially if you want to keep the old, mystical message woven into a rug by its symbols and motifs.
