Doris Leslie Blau Collection Botanic Tibetan Handmade Silk and Wool Rug N11543 9'0" × 12'0" $15,000
$15,000
This extraordinary mid century modern rug is a creation which comes from the hands of masterly Tibetan weavers. Hand-made of the finest wool according to traditional weaving techniques, the carpet represents the upmost excellence in terms of quality of execution. It was thoroughly crafted knot by knot for many days to achieve this degree of softness, firmness and accuracy of the artful design.
The flat weave wool rug, although it represents the ancient art of weaving, is composed in such a way to cater for contemporary tastes and to match state-of-the-art interiors. It is borderless, so the main dashing pattern of flowers is unlimited and sprouts freely from different edges of the field. However, there is no room for overabundance . Pronounced as they are, the flowers take up a smaller part of the pile leaving the rest plain and simple.
The background, kept in a light gray shade, is decorated with delicate, thin lines which join together forming slightly irregular geometric figures. It gives an impression of a sun-scorched soil, where the pale indigo flowers in the foreground constitute a promise of a new life. This entire composition is a pearl of contemporary weaving art; it is a merger between the skills of our ancestors and the modern aesthetic thought.
