Vintage William Morris Rug BB6379 3'9" × 7'0" $30,000

$30,000

This exceptional vintage rug was created by a true Renaissance man, William Morris, an English textile designer, poet, novelist and translator. As befits a work of a genius, the antique carpet is perfect both in the execution and artistic form. Its soft pile is hand-made of the finest wool according to traditional weaving techniques which is a guarantee of quality and longevity. What speaks for this argumentation is the fact that this piece have lasted unblemished for long decades and will surely satisfy its owners in years to come. The main field and borders are adorned with foliage design which represents a merger between the European and Oriental aesthetics with a hint of Caucasian influences.

Those influences are mostly visible in the toned, autumnal color palette composed of brownish green, sandy beige, brick red and maroon. There are some slight shade variations caused by the application of natural dyes to the threads – the so called Abrash effect. It further enhances the value and uniqueness of this elegant composition. Such a arts and crafts carpet and rug will look beautifully even in contemporary interiors as it exudes timeless elegance.
