Deborah Liebman: At a Whitney Biennial in the late 1980s, after seeing mattresses and cake hanging from the ceiling, my husband and I turned the corner and saw an Agnes Martin white painting — David said “Ahhh, the Old Masters”. lol But there is something so familiar and serene about the white paintings – isn’t there?
