Antique Persian Heriz Blue, Brown, Red and White Handwoven Wool Rug BB7139 12'2" × 15'10" $45,000
$45,000
Thanks to their durability and geometricized designs enhanced by patina and rich colors, Persian Heriz rugs and Bakshaish rugs continue to attract new generations of consumers and collectors around the world. In contrast to the majority of Persian rugs, carpets from Heriz have a bit coarser texture and suppler weave which goes together well with large medallion designs – it’s all part of their raw, exotic charm.
This antique Persian Heriz rug was made circa 1920. Its main field carries a central medallion surrounded by a thicket of botanical motifs. It is embraced by a series of borders where flowering climbers and palmettes are the main theme. The pattern is dense yet not very intricate, kept somewhere in between rural and urban aesthetics. As befits a Heriz rug, the palette consists of many contrasting colors, including blue, brown, red and white.
Although made a century ago, this antique rug looks like it just came down from the looms. It was carefully hand-woven of high-quality wool in accordance with traditional techniques which ensured its durability. Provided it is properly cared for, the rug will serve its owners for generations without any signs of wear.
