$120,000

A large hand-knotted wool rug from the early 20th century, in excellent condition. This is a rare Gavin Morton piece with a plush pile and quintessential Art & Crafts design. The composition is symmetrical, with a pattern of undulating lattice in emerald and yellow, on a vast green field. A more colorful border abundant in floral elements frames the composition.

British artist Gavin Morton (1867–1954) is perhaps best known for his work as head of the design department for Morton & Co, a Scotland based textile company founded by his uncle Alexander Morton. Over time, Morton & Co aligned itself with the rising Arts and Crafts movement in Great Britain.
