This circa-1940 vintage Swedish flat weave rug features a simple all-over design of a repeating checkerboard pattern of beige and green squares, with overlaid horizontal lines adding dimension and variety to the design. The vintage midcentury carpet is minimalist and modern, and stands as a fine example of a rich textile-weaving tradition. In Sweden, carpets and rugs have been hand-knotted in wool for centuries, taking on many different forms and functions over the course of time.
