This Swedish flat weave called ‘Spattangul’ is a creation of the doyenne of Scandinavian weaving art – Marta Maas Fjetterstrom. Its allover pattern features smoothly curving lines in shades of off-white, purple and green against a striated dusty yellow field. The whole composition reflects the gently rolling hills of Scandinavia, filtered through the eyes of a modernist. Both ends as well as the sides of this bucolic carpet are trimmed with multi-colored stripes which complete and enclose the design. Although made over sixty years ago, the rug is unblemished by time due to the masterful hand-execution of the finest wool.
