Chinese Deco Rug

Chinese Deco Rug BB7000

Vintage Chinese rugs are well known for  not only their elegant designs, but also great quality of their weave. Antique Chinese rugs usually depict religious scenes, but also stylized animals and flowers. While most traditional patterns were influenced by Chinese culture, contemporary rugs often find inspiration in the West instead of East. Just a quick look at this piece can show you how much Chinese rugs changed throughout last few decades and it is certainly a positive change.

Woven in the mid 20th century, circa 1950, this vintage rug boasts a stunning pattern, which immediately draws attention  to it. Inspired by traditional Chinese motifs, it features a floral composition made of large leaves and delicate chrysanthemum in full bloom. Beauty of the petals is further enhanced by the black background, which seems to play the role of canvas. The color palette chosen by rug’s weaver was based on the different shades of pink and yellow on a black field to help bring out the depth.
