$27,000
Exotic, vibrant, effortlessly elegant – such indeed are Samarkand vintage rugs. Although made in the Middle East, they comprise designs from a variety of oriental cultures, including Indian, Persian or Chinese. The remarkable Samarkand kilim rug and carpet before your eyes is an excellent example of this rich diversity of influences. Its main field is covered with three bold medallions surrounded by smaller ones containing Far-Eastern motifs, as well as trees of life, flower heads, finished with corner accolades. In the series of equally compelling borders each exhibits a different design, from meandering fret pattern, through spare flower heads to architectural capitals and diagonal stripes.
This abundance of themes was softened with a toned and balanced color palette, however not without a spark. The main field is covered with both vibrant and tasteful blush hue complemented by tranquil sandy beige, carob and touches of chocolate. This antique carpet was meticulously hand-crafted of the first-rate wool in accordance with old and refined weaving techniques by a skilled artisan which contributed to its durability and uniqueness. When invited to any contemporary abode, it has a chance to bring in the warmth of the Oriental Sun and spice up the décor with its multicultural condiment.
