$7,000
This soft and shaggy vintage rug is a prime example of the Scandinavian craftsmanship. Its style called “Rya” was the earliest developed one in the realms of the North, with heritage reaching back to the middle ages. Initially, Ryas did not serve as floor coverings but rather as a protection against the harsh climatic conditions for the people – the mariners living off the sea in particular. They were modeled on natural animal fur, thus until today Rya rugs are distinguished by a long pile, unmatched by any other pile-weaves. The one before your eyes is no different. It was masterly hand-executed in accordance with old and refined techniques of the finest wool. Due to such expert making it has lasted unblemished for over half a century and will serve its owners for decades. Design-wise, this vintage beauty is settled in the modernist aesthetics. There is no figurative representation, just an abstract geometric pattern build entirely on the play of colors. The main field encompassed patches of various shades of green, including, light, dark and dusty, as well as touches of plum, pastel rose, brown and a bit of indigo. The borders are rendered in an off-white shade which also crosses the main field in long, slightly oblique lines. The whole composition is extremely pleasant to the eye and hand. It will introduce warmth and homeliness to any interior, from classic to modern.
