This colorful boucherouite rag rug from Morocco delights with bright colors and easy-to-read abstract pattern. Colors are chosen and arranged intuitively and without plan. It is an authentic reflection of Berber weavers’ everyday life. Checker pattern in purple, pink, shades of blue and grey, red, white mix randomly with one or two individual squares of unpredicted color to form a truly unique abstract piece of art. “Boucherouite” means rag or torn cloth in Moroccan Arabic.
This kind of antique rugs were made by Berber women from a combination of any materials that could be found including cotton, nylon and wool.
