Vintage Spanish Flat-Weave Wool Runner BB5414 2'10" × 11'0" $16,000
$16,000
This circa-1850 vintage Spanish flat-weave runner has an all-over design of floral abstractions in green and beige against a field of dark blue. A thick light beige border patterned with abstract shapes in sea green completes the intricate design of this antique carpet. Flat-woven antique oriental rugs feature a type of weave created from vertical (weft) and horizontal (warp) interlocked threads, for a napless overall effect. Spanish cut-pile vintage area rugs from the 15th – 17th centuries were woven with knots tied to single warps. After the Christian conquest of Spain, two main types of Spanish style rugs were produced – those that combined folk motifs with Christian and Islamic designs and those that were based upon Turkish motifs. In the 18th and 19th centuries, carpets, woven with the Turkish knot, were produced with designs based on those from Savonnerie and Aubusson factories in France.
