Antique Persian Hamadan Runner BB6111 3'4" × 13'3" $15,000
$15,000
This circa-1920 antique Persian Hamadan runner rug features an all-over design of elaborate geometric abstractions containing linear motifs in sharp green, orange and brown, against a neutral light gray field. The unique early 20th century antique carpet is signed by the artist and is an intiguing piece of interior design that comes from a renowned rug weaving tradition. Produced in Hamadan, one of the oldest cities in Persia, this piece is part of one of the most diverse Oriental weaving centers. Hamadan typically produced fine, coarse carpets made with the symmetric Ghiordes knot, with prevailing angular designs characteristic of Caucasus textiles – although arabesques and curvilinear motifs of Central Persia also abound. Incorporating rich blue and dark scarlet hues contrasted by soft neutrals, these antique carpets remain a favorite with collectors and designers.
