A hand-knotted rug sample, made out of wool in accordance with traditional techniques. The design pays tribute to well-established, classic Oriental rug patterns – the main field carries florals, palettes, and Tree of Life motifs which symbolize eternal life. The message is emphasized by the rich color palette combining tones of blue, beige, and red. Such a color combination is typical of Persian rugs, however, it was absorbed also by Turkish weavers. The color blue in oriental rugs makes an allusion to the afterlife and is frequently applied when the Tree of Life appears in the design. The borders carry popular kilim motifs, like diamonds, as well as palmettes and flower heads.
