A hand-knotted wool rug made in the 1950’s in Palestine.
This antique Bezalel rug displays a panoply of Hebrew letters and Jewish symbols, each with their own meaning for the scholarly eye to discern. The centerpiece of this carpet is a lit menorah and, to emphasize its symbolism, the main field is dotted with smaller menorahs as well. The colors are somber, in charcoal and camel, with a few red and ivory accents, in respect to the religious nature of the design. This rug has tassels on its shorter edges, as per tradition.
