Arts & Crafts Beige, Green, Purple and Red Handwoven Rug by Gavin Morton BB7211 8'6" × 11'6" $40,000
$40,000
An early 20th century arts and crafts carpet designed by Gavin Morton (1867-1954), having a light green field with a Turkish-inspired polychrome geometric design featuring a central medallion, Trees of Life, angular vinery and abstract florals within a series of borders adorned with stylized palmettes, flower heads and vinery. The color palette, as typical of Arts&Crafts rugs, is rich yet muted, featuring tones of green, beige, purple and red. The present vintage carpet is demonstrative of the designer’s predilection for updating traditional Persian antique rug design by enhancing the color and enlarging and stylizing the design motifs.
The rug was hand-made of high-quality wool in accordance with traditional techniques. Provided a minimal amount of care, it will serve its owners for generations without any signs of wear.
Vintage beautiful rugs are essential objects of desire of not only vintage trend followers but all aficionados of beauty and sublime design. There is a good reason for such vast recognition as vintage carpets constitute the core of taste and artistry of the 20th century progressive thought.
