Midcentury Turkish Brown and White Kilim Wool Rug BB6956 4'1" × 6'3" $1,800
$1,800
Balanced and elegant, this antique kilim shows the sublime taste and technical finesse of Turkish rug craftsmanship. Made circa 1930s’, it looks very different from what we are used to when thinking about traditional tribal art. Its design is so classy, timeless and versatile that it seems to be way ahead of its time.
The Turkish kilim builds upon dark brown with touches of beige, light brown and gray. The austerity of form and lack of figurative patterns is broken by a seam trimming the edges and the central stripe, made in a bit rough, tribal manner. The field, although flat-woven, has a palpable texture resembling the one of animal hides.
Thoroughly hand-made of high quality wool, this antique Turkish rug distinguishes itself with exceptional durability which allowed it to survive until this day in perfect condition. If properly maintained, the flat-weave has a chance to serve its owners for generations without any signs of wear. Steeped in history yet well-balanced and strangely modern, this antique rug will easily match any kind of present-day décor, bringing in the never-passing recherché charm.
