Antique Tabriz Persian Allover Geometric Cream Hand-Knotted Wool Carpet – Circa 1920 BB8398 8'1" × 11'9" $38,000
$38,000
This antique Persian Tabriz rug presents a dense, all-over trellis of tiny lancet-shaped motifs in deep chocolate brown, set against a subtly variegated dove-gray ground that shifts from pale pewter to soft taupe. The tightly packed field pattern creates a fine “cloth-of-gold” effect, as the gray background peeks through the dark lattice. Surrounding the field is a series of narrow guard borders—each only a few inches wide—featuring repeating rosettes, “X”-marks, and tiny boteh (paisley) forms in brown and gray on an ivory-tinged ground. The outermost border carries a delicate running vine of stylized leaves and blossoms, also in brown and gray, which provides a gentle transition to the dark brown selvedge. Hand-knotted in fine wool with a low, even pile, this Tabriz exhibits subtle abrash and slight wear that lend a quietly aged patina. Its restrained two-tone palette and meticulous geometry make it an ideal anchor for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
