Authentic 19th Century Persian Senneh Botanic Blue Red Beige Handmade Wool Rug BB7154 5'1" × 7'10" $25,000
$25,000
This circa-1880 antique Persian Senneh rug features an all-over design of repeating floral abstractions composed of the boteh pattern in blue and red against a field of light beige. A staple of Oriental rug-weaving, the boteh is the Persian inspiration for the paisley shape and typically represents a leaf or a pinecone. The city of Senneh, located in Northwest Kurdistan in Iran, is known for its finely woven rugs with symmetric knots. Popular designs for the rugs included the Herati pattern, all-over botehs and concentric hexagonal medallions. Highly valued for their fine, delicate design and weaving technique, Senneh carpets are among the “thinnest” of all antique area rugs, and come in a range of colors from rich to softer shades. Some of the finest examples of these rugs and carpets are knotted on silk foundations.
