Fine Antique Persian Khorassan Botanic Brown, Green Handmade Wool Rug BB8547 13'6" × 18'9" $150,000
$150,000
This antique late 19th century Persian Khorassan rug features floral abstractions and arabesques in shades of brown on a field of blue, with an overall muted patina characteristic of antique carpets. A brownish-beige main border completes the look of this intricate piece. The name “Khorassan,” given to the eastern province of Persia during the Sassanid Empire, means “where the sun arrives from.” Antique Khorassan round Persian rugs and carpets are made with a soft wool woven into thin, tight piles, making them durable despite their soft lustrous wool.
Further distinguishing themselves, Khorassan carpets make use of an unusual artistic effect produced by uneven trimming of the pile, which makes the figures of the design stand out from the background. Whatever the design or color, antique Khorassan beautiful rugs and carpets maintain a high standard of drawing and weaving technique.
