$60,000
Since the 16th century, Oushak rugs have been among the esteemed objects d’art. Due to their beauty and glamor, they appeared in still life paintings of important European artists, such as Holbein, Lotto, Velasquez, Memling or Vermeer.
This antique Turkish Oushak rug is an exceptionally graceful example of its mother town craft. It is covered in an allover botanical pattern featuring palmettes and the tree of life motifs. The main field is enclosed within a quite thick yet relatively simple border which beautifully complements and balances the main design. Symbolizing eternal life, the tree of life motif is one of the most iconic in oriental rugs. The combination of slate gray with blue undertones and beige is versatile and elegant, ready to complement a wide array of interiors.
In addition to beautiful appearance, the antique rug can boast of impeccable execution. It was carefully hand-knotted of the finest wool in accordance with centuries-old techniques. If properly maintained, it will serve its owners for generations without any signs of wear.
