Mid-20th Century Beige, Aqua, Brown Swedish Flat-Weave Wool Rug Signed by AGA BB5910 5'4" × 8'4" $12,000
$12,000
This early 20th century vintage Swedish flat weave rug signed AGA has a central design of geometric abstractions in shades of brown and blue, surrounded by a border of multicolored circular shapes. Minimalist and modern, the vintage carpet is part of a rich vintage rug weaving tradition. In Sweden, carpets and rugs have been hand-knotted in wool for centuries, taking on many different forms and functions over the course of time.
By the beginning of the twentieth century, the craft was seen as being an important artistic and cultural practice throughout Sweden, and designers began to make antique oriental rugs that had a broad international appeal. Scandinavian rugs from the mid-twentieth century, endorsed by such fixtures of modernism as Le Corbusier, Ray Eames and Frank Lloyd Wright, remain among the most desirable and sought after in the rug world.
