Midcentury Samarkand Caramel and Dark Brown Handmade Wool Rug BB6430 6'3" × 11'5" $9,000
$9,000
Samarkand rugs are distinguished by a unique fashion integrating numerous influences from various weaving schools, including Persian, Turkish Chinese or Indian. Such diversity stems from the fact that the oasis city used to be located at the famous Silk Route, at the junction of different oriental cultures, and absorbed a bit from each and every one of them resulting in one and only, free-spirited Samarkand style. Here, we have an excellent example of this wonderful eclecticism.
This vintage rug bears typical to Samarkand, bold circular medallions with a special rectangular medallion in the middle. The main field is finished with Chinese-styled corner ornaments but it also incorporates Middle-Eastern motifs, such as crosses, rhombuses and flower heads. The series of borders is equally surprising yet it definitely stays in the spirit of the main design. In terms of the color palette, the antique rug relays on classic solutions, combining caramel background with dark brown shade of the pattern. This versatile and toned composition will without a doubt match a wide variety of interior décors, from classic to modern. All the more, due to its masterful hand execution of the finest wool in accordance with traditional weaving techniques, the Samarkand rug will serve its owners for generations just as it already has for over 60 years.
