The Samarkand weaving center is a birthplace of some of the most free-spirited and diverse carpets in the world. This remarkable vintage Samarkand rug is a prime example of this astounding craftsmanship influenced by almost every existing oriental weaving culture, from Persian and Turkish to Indian and Chinese. Its impressive main field is covered with a dense allover pattern of pomegranate tree branches with ripe fruits, symbolizing fertility, prosperity and luck.
The composition is enclosed within a series of equally compelling borders containing various geometric, architectural and floral vintage rug shop motifs. Deep indigo, constituting the background of the main field, is complemented with mauve, beige and brown tones residing in the design and borders. However, the appearance is not the only merit of this incredible treasure of the past. The vintage Samarkand rug was expertly hand-knotted of the finest wool in accordance with old and refined weaving techniques and dyed with natural dyes only.
Such thorough making ensured that the carpet has survived until this day and will surely serve its owners for generations without any signs of wear. The antique carpet, characterized by timeless elegance and recherché charm, will match a wide variety of interior arrangements, from classic to contemporary.
