Dhurrie Mid-Century Handmade Rug BB3923 4'0" × 6'0" $4,800

$4,800

A second quarter 20th century Indian Dhurrie antique rug, the blue, orange and yellow striped field covered by an orange symmetrical design with two stylized medallions with hooked-device vinery and framed by geometric motifs and fretwork along the edges and in the corners.

Dhurrie rugs have been made by the people of India for thousands of years. By definition, a dhurrie (the word is sometimes spelled “dari” or “durrie”) is a flat-woven vintage rug indigenous to India and the surrounding regions — Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Burma. Dhurries are always weft-faced, which means that the warp, or lengthwise threads of the rug, are never visible except at the fringes.
