The Herati design, being the dominant, eccentric force on this rug’s main field, consists of a stylized rosette, enclosed in a diamond whose boundaries are set out by acanthus leaves. It is complemented by a floral sequence beautifully arranged around yet another quadrilateral central anchor. The visible abrasion running in strips across the main field is a natural certificate of authenticity, specific to antique Persian rugs.
