This oversized, antique Malayer rug, dating back to circa 1910, is hand-knotted out of wool and has a color palette of blue, beige and brown, with the latter two being predominant. Persian Malayer carpets of this size are rare, as this rugmaking style is typically known for its small rugs and runners. The main field features a vase design, with spandrels in the corners. Apart from that, we can see meandering botanical and floral motifs, Herati motifs and rosettes. The color blue is used sparingly, making it all the more striking in this rug’s design.
