Antique Persian Malayer Brown, Beige and Blue Handwoven Wool Rug BB5893 12'2" × 17'0" $75,000
$75,000
This circa-1910 antique Persian Malayer rug features an intricate all-over design of arabesques and floral abstractions in shades of beige and blue against a rich brown field. A main border in beige containing flower motifs frames the elaborate center pattern. Antique Malayer antique oriental rugs come from the city of Malayer in Iran near Hamadan and were, for the most part, created by individual weavers during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Typically woven with a symmetric knot, the antique Persian rug patterns and carpets often employ geometric medallion designs or herati patterns. Malayer rugs and carpets are singular in their broad range of designs and color palette, making them stunning artistic creations. The value of the rugs reflects their artistry in that the diversity of design and color is somewhat atypical for other styles of Persian rugs.
