High-quality Vintage Malayer Handmade Wool Runner BB5364 3'10" × 13'2" $10,000

$10,000

This circa-1920 antique Malayer runner rug features an all-over design of floral and geometric abstractions, as well as the herati pattern (also known as the “fish pattern”) – a stylized design of a flower usually centered in a diamond and framed by diagonal leaves, and a commonly occurring motif in Oriental rug-weaving – in shades of beige against a field of dark brown. Antique Malayer rugs come from the city of Malayer in Iran and were, for the most part, created by individual weavers during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

These antique rugs and carpets are singular in their broad range of designs and color palette, making them stunning artistic creations. The value of the rugs reflects their artistry in that the diversity of design and color is somewhat atypical for other styles of Persian rugs.
