$18,000

The ancient city of Samarkand is located at the former Silk Road which had a strong impact on rug designs coming from the Central Asian town. This lively vintage rug, permeated with Far-Asian influences, shows the incredible richness and diversity of Samarkand creations.

The main field incorporates a decorative central medallion surrounded by kilim motifs and enveloped by four corner spandrels. This tastefully balanced composition is enclosed within a series of elegant borders with further Chinese-derived motifs. The prevailing light gray with bluish undertones is complemented by dark brown, dusty yellow, mauve and beige. The entire design is bold yet not overwhelming. In addition to charming appearance, the vintage Samarkand rug is distinguished by impeccable execution which allowed it to survive until present day without any signs of wear.

Hand-knotted of the finest wool in accordance with traditional weaving techniques, the carpet has a dependable construction and durable pile that, if properly maintained, will serve its owners for generations. This unique vintage Samarkand rug will easily match a wide variety of interior arrangements, bringing in the magic and recherché charm of oriental artistry.
