Few people had as much influence on Swedish design as Carl Malmsten. This ingenious artist and craftsman loved the tradition of his country more than anything and wove his feelings into this rug. A beautiful piece made of woolen fibers, this carpet was created using a very durable flat weave, which allowed Malmsten to concentrate on its pattern. The simplistic composition consists of geometrical shapes, rectangles and squares, crossed by thin lines. The designer’s colors of choice were not picked at random – light beige with a hint of white, blacks and browns complete each other perfectly, further enhancing this wonderful piece. Malmsten opposed the idea that the item’s functionality should be the most important – he created a carpet which fuses together beauty and practicality, proving that there is always a place for aesthetics.
