Indian Dhurrie Rug BB7942 12'7" × 13'10" $30,000

$30,000

Dhurrie rugs are deeply rooted in Indian tradition. These relatively light but durable weavings are impenetrable to silverfish and other insects responsible for destroying carpets. Dhurries are an important part of Indian culture – they have always transcended social boundaries by serving in houses of poor and rich alike.

The vintage Dhurrie rug features a beige field with an abstract, allover design enclosed with a Greek key border. The rug design is rendered in beige, green, purple and yellow.

This vintage Dhurrie, made circa 1950, has survived until this day in excellent condition due to refined workmanship. It was carefully hand-woven out of natural materials by a skilled artisan in accordance with centuries-old techniques. Provided minimum amount of care, the flat-weave will withstand many years with no signs of wear, being the centerpiece of any décor.
