Vintage Swedish Flat Weave Rug by Sverker Greuholm BB6255 5'4" × 7'8"
Vintage Flat Weave Rug by Sverker Greuholm, Origin: Sweden, Circa: 1950. This Mid-20th Century rug is a flagship example of the Swedish unique aesthetics and intricate craftsmanship. Thanks to blue-toned colorists, designer Sverker Greuholm effectively referred to the very beginning of Scandinavian rug tradition. As in the fifteenth century ‘rya’ carpets were used by fishermen like a fur, this chilly color palette reminiscences of a deep sea abyss. Black parallel lines separate the blocks of emerald green, azure blue and soft gray. With a closer look at flat-weave motifs delicate abrasions show up, giving the effect of a shade diffusion. This vintage rug captures deliberate nature of Scandinavian design perfectly. Both central and border part are embellished with contrasting right-angled figures. Although it may seem strongly geometric, in fact they reflect white flowers. The whole rug is closed in a patterned frame, like a neoplasticist painting.
