$40,000
Throughout centuries, rugs from Oushak have been considered one of the finest in the world. They have been represented among the carefully chosen and highly esteemed objects d’art in the studied interiors and still life paintings of important European personages since the sixteenth century, as depicted by such artists as Holbein, Lotto, Velasquez, Memling or Vermeer.
This antique Oushak rug was made circa 1920. Its main field, finished with four spandrels, carries a central medallion surrounded by palmettes and other botanical motifs. This steeped-in-tradition design is enclosed within a series of equally compelling borders with smaller medallions. The color palette balances the richness of patterns with soft tones of orange, brown and gold against the dusty beige background.
Next to beautiful appearance, the antique Turkish Oushak rug is distinguished by refined workmanship. Thoroughly hand-knotted of the finest wool in accordance with centuries-old techniques like the symmetric Ghiordes knot, the rug is durable and resilient. If properly maintained, it will serve its owners for generations without any signs of wear. Versatile, qualitative and elegant, this antique Oushak rug will easily fit into a wide variety of interior arrangements, bringing in a magical touch of recherché art.
