$40,000
An early 20th century antique Turkish Oushak rug. Circa: 1920. This outstanding antique rug is truly a trademark of the Oushak craftsmanship. It features an all-over design, consisting of traditional Anatolian motifs. The central part of Turkish kilim is covered with a repetitive pattern of herati and lotus, placed in alternate rows. Herati consists of a stylized flower, located within a diamond shape and surrounded by four acanthus leaves-those leaves are sometimes called ‘fishes’. The borders are framed with floral arabesques and geometric abstractions. Such a design antique rugs demands an exceptionally high knot density, which makes this piece extremely qualitative. Saturated, dark eggplant patterns stand out against a subdued grape background. Silky, luminous wool will provide pleasure both to the eye and the hand.
