Antique Pair of Malayer runners BB4591

Price: $25,000

Beauty of an authentic Persian rug is not only its elegant design, but also great quality of the weave. A Persian rug can survive more than 50 years with relatively little wear, provided it’s being  cared for properly. Most carpet-weaving villages located on terrain that used to belong to Persian Empire have their own original patterns, developed through centuries. The town of Malayer is especially famous for the beautiful designs of their antique rugs and runners, with some of the patterns being impossible to find anywhere else.

This pair of exquisite Malayer runners  was hand woven in the early 20th century, circa 1920. What draws the eye is certainly their simple, yet very elegant pattern. On the main field we can see a striated taupe field with an allover trellis of angular vinery and abstract flowerheads within a simplistic border, which is decorated with angular scrolling vinery and abstract floral motifs. The color palette of those antique runners suits the whole perfectly. Three different shades of brown, from almost beige to cocoa, work together harmoniously, resulting in a composition which is as beautiful as it is balanced.

The size of those Malayer runners , 3’5″ × 13’5″ (104 × 409 cm), makes them a perfect choice for long corridors and halls in dire need of some timeless elegance. Doris Leslie Blau’s exquisite collection of antique rugs is full of treasures waiting for you to uncover them!
