Oversized Antique Persian Khorassan Rug BB5210
This turn-of-the-century antique Persian Khorassan rug features a rich tapestry of multicolor floral patterns and arabesques in shades of blue, beige and brown on a field of lighter beige. The main border completes the intriguing look of the carpet with larger leaf-like shapes and boteh, a staple of quality oriental rugs. A pear-shaped figure often used in oriental rug designs and characteristic of the paisley pattern, the boteh may represent a leaf, bush or a pinecone. The antique rug comes from the Khorassan region of Iran, its name meaning “rising sun.” Khorassan’s reputation as the quintessential source of the largest and most varied assortment of exotic Persian carpets comes from its abundant supply of soft wool, high quality craftsmen, a mix of larger city-based workshops, looms in smaller villages and access to the Silk Road.
