This magnificent rug truly shows the excellence of genuine Persian craftsmanship. It was made by the Bakhtiari tribe inhabiting the southwest part of Iran. Although initially Bakhtiari carpets were woven solely by the nomads, the most recognizable, qualitative and authentic examples of these textiles are manufactured by Bakhtiari settled communities in west central Iran southwest of Isfahan, Chahar Mahaal and Bakhtiari.
The mesmerizing piece before your eyes builds upon the most traditional and famous Bakhtiari design – Khesti , the garden motif. The vast and absolutely imposing field is sectioned into decorative medallions containing strap work, rosettes and floral vines in shades of pale indigo, rosewood brown and sand with midnight blue accents. As befits a true Persian rug, this one can boast of multiple borders adorned with various kinds of flowery patterns, and a main border embellished with flowering vinery on a deep midnight blue background.
This opulent yet balanced design of colors and motifs was thoroughly hand-crafted of the finest wool by a skilled weaver.
