The region of Khorassan is well known for their fine antique Persian rugs, which date back to the Timurid empire in the late middle ages. Persian rugs are one of Iran’s greatest treasures. The whole of Iran is famed for the exquisite talent of local weavers and ancient weaving traditions, which can be traced back to antiquity and early Medieval times. Most Persian carpet-weaving villages located on terrain were a part of the Persian Empire and thus have their own original patterns, developed through centuries. It would be an impossible task to find two identical antique Persian rugs, as every and each one of them is a unique treasure.
This exquisite antique Persian rug was woven in the early 20th century, circa 1900. Made of the highest quality materials, it survived over a century with no wears or tears on its luxurious pile. Enchanting pattern of this antique rug features a field decorated with an allover trellis of palmettes, cloudbands and intricate flowering vinery. The whole is framed by a dense vinery border with flowers and vines curling along it. The color palette accompanying this piece consists of cool shades of delicate blue with a bit of gray and creamy beige.
The size of this antique Persian rug, 10’0″ × 13’7″ (305 × 414 cm), makes it a great choice for spacious rooms, such as lounges or personal offices. The effortless elegance of this luxurious Persian rug certainly draws attention of not only art collectors, but also interior designers.
